orbitotomy

Based on the approach or location of entry into the orbit:

1. Anterior Orbitotomy

Through the eyelid or conjunctiva (front part of the orbit).

Used for lesions near the front (extraconal or subconjunctival).

Less invasive and commonly performed.

2. Lateral Orbitotomy

Through the outer wall of the orbit (near the temple).

Provides access to deep lateral or retrobulbar lesions.

Often used for optic nerve or cavernous hemangioma surgery.

3. Medial Orbitotomy

Through the inner (nasal) wall of the orbit.

Access to medial orbital or sinus-related lesions.

Can be done externally or via endoscopic (transnasal) approach.
