Corneal diseases
Care after the corneal transplant
surgery:
1. After you regain full consciousness, first drink
some fluids and then eat if you can tolerate it.
There are no special dietary restrictions and no
special diet is recommended.
2. After surgery, sleep on your back and avoid
sleeping on the operated eye or on your stomach.
3. Stay calm and avoid coughing, sneezing, and
straining.
4. Get your prescription when you are discharged
and use the eye drops as instructed, and bring
your medications with you to your next visit.
5. There is no need to put in drops at night when you
are sleeping.
6. Leave at least 5 to 10 minutes between drops.
7. Use an eye shield while sleeping for 3 to 4 weeks
and wear sunglasses during the day because the
operated eye is sensitive to sunlight.
8. Use acetaminophen if you feel pain or discomfort.
9. Increased tearing and some discharge are normal
after surgery, and it is also normal when waking
up, which causes eyelashes to stick together. You
can wipe these secretions with sterile gauze and
avoid manipulating the inside of the eye.
10. Follow the doctor's instructions for the next
visit.
11. Your vision will not be perfect immediately after
the operation, but it will gradually improve.
12. Note that the quality of vision after the operation
depends on the condition of the retina, the health
of the optic nerve, and the health of other parts of
the eye, which will gradually improve.
